Bucks County, PA
09/25/2024 03:15 PM

NOVA, Bucks County’s comprehensive crime victim services agency, will hold its 2nd Annual Upstander Day on Sunday, September 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain or shine). This family-friendly event is being held at the Epstein Campus of Lower Bucks County Community College, located at 1304 Veterans Highway, Bristol, Pa.

Upstander Day is free to attend and will feature games, giveaways, entertainment, food trucks, emergency vehicles, and a wide range of community resources. Upstander Day is sponsored by Penn Community Bank and media partner the Bucks County Herald.

Upstander Day promotes and celebrates our community’s Upstanders. These are individuals of all ages who, when they see bullying behavior, take steps to safely offer help. NOVA will be presenting five Upstander Awards at 1 p.m. with the help of emcee Richard Curtis, host of "The Class H-Room," a game show that airs Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. on FOX29, and a K-12 STEAM Coordinator for New Hope-Solebury School District.

Mary Worthington, Director of Prevention and Training, NOVA, explains, "The Upstander Awards are an opportunity to recognize people in our community for their positive actions and impact at times when others need support."

Additional Upstander Day activities include music by DJ Juhas, henna artistry, face painting, and a craft station where participants can create an Upstander keychain, a pocket heart, or a kindness rock. Door prizes include a chance to win an XBOX gaming system.

Community groups including Bikers Against Child Abuse, Scouting America, The Rainbow Room of Doylestown, the Bucks County Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and YWCA will also be in attendance providing information about their services. Upstander Day will provide animal lovers with a chance to meet the Roxy Therapy dogs, adopt puppies from WAGS Rescue and meet the Bucks County Sherrif’s K-9s. In addition, experts from NOVA will be available throughout the day to share information on parenting, child safety and mental health topics.
